Diet Pepsi

So Pepsi is a little on the overweight side. By about 20%... She's now on the "green bean" diet and walking 3-5 miles a day. I didn't realize what a lazy little doggie she has turned into. Hopefully over the next few weeks I can get her back on track to being healthy and active.

Chain Reaction

A weird chain of events occured tonight at dinner. First, I had some friends over for dinner. Since everyone has kids, I usually eat dinner at other people's houses, but I invited the whole family over (disasterous for those of us that have cream seat cushions). Everything was going smoothly until my friend dropped a bit of hashbrown casserole onto the floor. I called Pepsi over to eat it, but realized that it was hot from the oven so I bent over to blow on it for her. At that point, my friend dropped the spoon on my head. Fortunately, the handle hit me in the head. Unfortunately, all the contents of the spoon flew out and got all over Pepsi. And the really sad part was that she could reach any of it without just smearing it around. I ended up having to give her a bath--potatoes are hard to get out of dog hair...

Scary Snack

I am trying to teach Pepsi to work for her food. It's been hard because she hasn't had to worry about where her next meal will come from. It has gotten so bad that she "grazes" throughout the day which allows the cats to eat her food. So I'm trying to get her interested in catching treats in the air--and I had a brilliant idea this afternoon. I was eating Cheez-Its on the couch and Pepsi just sat there watching me, wanting one so badly. So I got up and made sure her attention was on the Cheez-It I was holding in front of my face and then tossed it (slowly) in the air, praying that she would catch it. Not only did she not catch it, but she squeezed her eyes shut and literally huddled away, allowing it to fall and get stuck on the top of her head. It was absolutely hysterical! I've never seen a dog get scared of food being tossed at it--I tried to more times, and in both instances she attempted to shield herself from the treat. So that was my laugh for the day.
