That's Anaphyantastic!!!

So I'm anaphynatically (??) allergic to something... I popped a couple handfuls of sunflower seeds yesterday afternoon and within a minute my throat had swollen up so badly that I was struggling to wheeze and cough. I tried to tough it out for about the first hour or so before one of my neighbors noticed me sitting outside with hives, struggling for life. Fortunately (I guess), she also has a severe food allergy and had a nebulizer treatment on hand. I was completely fine within three hours, but entirely spent--I slept soundly for ten hours last night! So today I went to an urgent care clinic and my doctor was a real idiot!! He gave me three epipens and said that by the third one, I should really have the allergy narrowed down *forehead slap*. When I asked about getting an allgergy grid done, he said he'd put in a referral, but suggested I not eat anything until after I get the results back *forehead slap again*. So now I pretty much hold an epipen to my thigh every time I eat. Well, it's a pretty inexpensive diet...

anaphylaxis (n.), aka "anaphylactic shock"

From your entry it sounds like it was sunflower seeds, or something on the seeds, that you reacted with. I hope you get the referral; that's rather frightening.

The only ingredients were sunflower seeds, salt, peanut oil and/or cottonseed oil and/or sunflower oil. I am just really hoping it's the sunflowers and not the peanuts.

It would be really unusual for you to develop a peanut allergy so late in life.
